Why Customers Object

"I'm just looking," "I'm just here for service," "I'm just here for the card," "I'm not buying today" — these are a customer's first line of defense, used until they feel comfortable in their surroundings. It's not personal, and it's not unique to intice leads.

The Three-Step Response

  1. Thank the customer for visiting. This is the first step in earning their confidence.
  2. Redirect with a question that moves the conversation to the next step — for example, offering a free professional appraisal while they look around.
  3. Give a compelling reason to continue engaging — most people don't plan to buy on day one, but gathering information now (pricing, options) is still valuable to them.

Example

"I'm just here for service and the Visa card."
"We're happy to redeem your offer certificate. But did you know interest rates are as much as 5% lower today than three years ago? Most customers with a three- or four-year-old vehicle can trade it in for a new one at the same payment — some even lower it."
